WILLIAM ELDER
FOUNDER & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Raised in South Alabama, William combines deep Southern roots with a forward-looking passion for artificial intelligence and emerging technology. A proud graduate of Auburn University’s Harbert College of Business, he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration with a focus on strategic leadership and big-picture problem-solving. War Eagle!
Currently, William is pursuing a dual degree, a Juris Doctor at Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law and an MBA from the Brock School of Business, where he explores the intersection of law, ethics, and innovation.
Driven by a belief in the transformative power of AI, William founded the Southern Institute for Digital Futures to ensure the South plays a leading role in shaping ethical and inclusive digital ecosystems. As Executive Director, he brings together legal insight, entrepreneurial energy, and a strong commitment to community, demonstrating how Southern grit and forward-thinking technology can move the region, and the world, ahead.

JACOB BAKER
CO-FOUNDER & DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH
Jacob Baker brings a profound sense of Southern heritage and a visionary approach to the transformative field of artificial intelligence, rooted in his upbringing in North Alabama. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University. After completing his undergraduate studies he joined the Alabama Air National Guard, focusing on Cyber Infrastructure and Digital Communications. Jacob has enriched his expertise through overseas assignments, including a deployment at Ramstein, Germany, and service within CENTCOM, where he supported critical missions and contributed to cyber operations with a focus on digital infrastructure and security.
Currently, Jacob is pursuing a Juris Doctor at Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, where his legal studies are enriched by a keen interest in AI development and governance. His experience as an IT Technician further honed his technical expertise, fueling his commitment to bridging technology and law.
Driven by a passion for ethical innovation, Jacob founded the Southern Institute for Digital Futures to champion AI governance, data privacy, and digital equity across the South. As a key leader, he leverages his legal acumen, technical background, and dedication to community empowerment to shape a digital future that reflects Southern values and global relevance.

Originally from the Pacific Northwest but raised in Birmingham, Alabama, Christian blends a commitment to community with a keen interest in legal and technological advancement. He is an Auburn University graduate who earned his Bachelor’s in Public Relations from the College of Liberal Arts, honing his skills in communication and relationship-building.
After undergrad, Christian applied his talents in medical research, contributing to advancements in healthcare before pursuing a Juris Doctor at Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law, where he is sharpening his expertise in legal analysis and advocacy.
As a member of the Southern Institute for Digital Futures’ Board of Directors, Christian brings valuable insight from his diverse experiences in research and operations. His dedication to regional progress ensures the South remains a vital player in shaping innovative and ethical digital landscapes with a vision for a connected future.
